Water is a type of Liquid in Farming Simulator 19. It must be provided to Animals in order to generate their main product, to breed, and/or to create Slurry.

Water can be taken for free in unlimited amounts from open bodies of water as well as pre-placed or Player-placed Water Tanks on the map. It can only be transported using a Water Tanker. Water can only be dumped into special receptacles in Animal Pens. As a Liquid, it cannot be dumped on the ground as a Heap.

Acquiring Water[]

There are two sources of water in the base game: Bodies of water (ponds, lakes, rivers, ocean) and placed Water Tanks (including those existing on the map by default, and those placed by players for a price).

All sources of water are free, and offer an unlimited amount of material to take.

In all cases, you must bring a Water Tanker to the water source in order to retrieve any water. There is no other tool that can carry water, and no other way to acquire it.

Refilling from Bodies of Water[]

Refilling directly from a body of water is a riskier (and oftentimes more difficult) way to get Water, but it requires no investment whatsoever and can be done on any map.

To refill from a body of water, the Water Tanker must be partially submerged in the liquid. Look for a gentle slope into the water, e.g. a shallow bank, and reverse the tanker slowly into the water until the option to refill appears in the Key Binding Help menu FS17 KeyboardButtonShow Key BindingsDefault Buttons: 30?cb=20170827234847 F130?cb=20170827234910 ??30?cb=20170828002413 ??. Hit the "Refill" button FS17 KeyboardButtonRefillDefault Buttons: 30?cb=20170827234847 R30?cb=20170827234910 ??30?cb=20170828002413 ?? to start filling the tanker with water. The process will automatically stop when the tanker is full, or if the tanker is pulled out of the water.

WARNING: If the slope into the water is too steep, the Water Tanker can pull the towing vehicle into the water. This can result in the vehicle drowning. You cannot enter a drowned vehicle, but you can reset it back to the Store by opening the Map Overview FS17 KeyboardButtonMap OverviewDefault Buttons: 30?cb=20170827234847 ESC30?cb=20170827234910 ??30?cb=20170828002413 ??, clicking the vehicle's yellow marker, and hitting the "Reset" button FS17 KeyboardButtonReset MachineDefault Buttons: 30?cb=20170827234847 Backspace30?cb=20170827234910 ??30?cb=20170828002413 ??.

Refilling from a Water Tank[]

Main article: Water Tanks (Farming Simulator 19)

A Water Tank is a Placeable source of water. Though some maps may have such a tank pre-placed on the map, most maps require you to purchase and place a Water Tank yourself if you wish to have a source of water at a specific location.

Water tanks provide an unlimited amount of water for free, just like bodies of water. However they do not carry the risk of drowning. To fill from a Water Tank, simply bring a Water Tanker next to the tank, and hit the "Refill" button FS17 KeyboardButtonRefillDefault Buttons: 30?cb=20170827234847 R30?cb=20170827234910 ??30?cb=20170828002413 ?? to start filling the tanker with water. The process will automatically stop when the tanker is full, or if the tanker is pulled out away from the water tank.

The main advantage of Water Tanks is that they can be placed very close to your Animal Pens, allowing you to quickly draw water and fill the pens without having to drive all the way to a water source.

Transport and Storage[]

Water can only be taken from a source using a Water Tanker. There is no other tool in the base game that allows carrying water.

Once water has been drawn into a Water Tanker, it can only be dumped into an Animal Pen that requires it and currently has room for it. If no such pen exists, the water will have to stay in the tanker. There is no way to dump the water out to make room for another liquid, e.g. Milk. Make sure you use a Tanker that is dedicated to carrying water.

Usage[]

The only use for Water in the base game is to provide it to Animals at their Animal Pens. For all animals except Chickens, Water is one of the required ingredients for Breeding and for generating the animal's main product (if any). Additionally, some animals produce Slurry when given water, regardless of whether or not food is also available. Horses do not breed, but require Water to stay healthy.

The rate of water consumption is different for each animal. The more animals are in the pen, the more water they consume each day, in direct proportion.

Each pen that requires water has a marked area where Water can be dumped. In the base game, all Animal Pen models put this marked area in front of a water trough that will visibly fill with water as a visual indicator of how much water is stored inside the pen.

To dump water into a water trough, tow the Water Tanker onto the marked area and hit the "Unload" button FS17 KeyboardButtonUnloadDefault Buttons: 30?cb=20170827234847 I30?cb=20170827234910 ??30?cb=20170828002413 ??. The tanker will begin pouring water into the pen immediately. If you hit the button again, or if the Water Tanker runs out of water, unloading will stop automatically.

If unloading continues until the pen's storage capacity is reached, the tanker will stop unloading water for the time being, but will automatically resume pouring water into the pen as the animals consume the water in order to keep the water trough full. IF you have the money, you can place a Water Tanker next to the water trough of each pen, set it to unload, and forget about it until the pens start to run out of water.

The maximum capacity of water in an Animal Pen is determined by the number of animals inside that pen multiplied by the daily consumption rate of water for that animal, multiplied by 10. Therefore, if the number of animals inside the pen remains constant, they will consume the entire capacity within exactly 10 days.

Animals will not die if they lack water.

Cows[]

Cows require water for three of their four functions: Breeding, producing Milk, and producing Slurry. They cannot perform any of these functions without water. They do not require water to produce Manure.

Each Cow consumes 80 liters of Water per day, as long as any amount of water is present in their pen. They will consume water regardless of the presence or lack of any other material.

As water is consumed, each Cow produces 250 liters of Slurry per day. This does not require any additional materials.

If water is consumed and any type of Food is also present, each Cow will additionally produce up to 150 liters of Milk per day, depending on the Productivity rating. Cows do not produce Milk if water is missing.

If water is consumed and any type of Food is also present, Cows will also breed. At 100% productivity, a new cow will be created every 1200 hours divided by the number of same breed and color cows in the same pen.

Pigs[]

Pigs require water for two of their functions: Breeding, and producing Slurry. They cannot perform either of these functions without water. They do not require water to produce Manure.

Each Pig consumes 20 liters of Water per day, as long as any amount of water is present in their pen. They will consume water regardless of the presence or lack of any other material.

As water is consumed, each Pig produces 95 liters of Slurry per day. This does not require any additional materials.

If water is consumed and any type of Food is also present, Pigs will also breed. At 100% productivity, a new pig will be created every 144 hours divided by the number of same color pigs in the same pen.

Sheep[]

Sheep require water for both of their functions: Breeding, and producing Wool. They cannot perform either of these functions without water.

Each Sheep consumes 20 liters of water per day. If no food is present, this water is totally wasted.

If water is consumed and any type of Food is also present, each Sheep will produce Wool. The rate of Wool production is unstable, starting at 0 liters per day but increasing gradually over time.

If water is consumed and any type of Food is also present, Sheep will also breed. At 100% productivity, a new sheep will be created every 960 hours divided by the number of same color sheep in the same pen.

Horses[]

Water is one of the materials required for Horses to maintain their Health. Lack of water, Straw or Food causes the health of all Horses in a pen to drop gradually over time, regardless of whether or not other materials are present.

Similarly, if Horses are not provided with Water, Straw or Food they cannot improve their Fitness at all, even if ridden for the maximum required time each day - and may in fact lose Fitness each day instead.

As long as water is available, each horse consumes 50 liters of water per day. If the horses lack Straw or Food, this water will be entirely wasted.
